EMS 110 - Paramedic Theory I Prepare individuals to complete preparation for paramedic certification. This eight-week course includes the roles and responsibilities of the paramedic, bloodborne pathogens, documentation & communication in EMS, medical records & HIPAA policies, Medical/Legal/Ethical considerations, anatomy and physiology of cells, tissues, muscular system, respiratory and cardiovascular systems, techniques for administration of medications and fluid resuscitation and an in-depth look at assessment and interventions for respiratory and cardiovascular conditions. Cardiac electrophysiology and EKG interpretation are also included.
Prerequisite EMS 100 and EMS 102 ; student holds current Illinois EMT Basic License or NREMT-Basic certification with eligibility for Illinois EMT Basic License; appropriate placement score or MATH 070 ”C” or better; COMM 100 or ENG 101 /ENG 101C ; or consent of EMS program director. Concurrent enrollment in EMS 114 .
Credits: 7 Lecture Hours 6 Lab Hours 2 lab hours per week
